This is the story of how I became a client from hell.

My company uses an external graphic design company. We were planning an event, and my boss (who is VERY disorganized) found out that a test-run for printing our invitation leaflet would take six days. Of course, she was behind schedule, so she was quite upset.

Boss: (passive aggressivelyto me) Well! If these are the delays, then I guess we won’t be doing a test-print.

A week later, the printed invitations arrived to be sent to our clients. Of course, that’s when we discovered there was a mistake in the date. My boss is furious, and the event team members start telling each others that the graphic firm should have proof-read the content even though they didn’t know the dates except for what we gave them.

Then my boss starts picking on every little thing that isn’t perfect about the invite, criticizing details she wouldn’t have paid much attention to if the date had been correct, so she can tell everyone this was a blessing in disguise.

Boss: I don’t get why they didn’t run a test-print. It’s their job to advise us on best-practice, and they should have done it either way.

Now we’re doing a test-print, our clients will receive the invite only two weeks before the event (if they ever receive it), and I’m waiting on whether the graphic design company will accept or not to not get paid for the reprint (my guess is not).
