I agreed to a heavily reduced rate for a client I had worked for in the past and started work on a personal project for them. I spent over 20 hours on the content and, as requested, set aside a week for amends.
After a week of waiting for feedback, I get an email from them:
Client: I’m not really happy with the work. You missed some pages of content out. I also had to spend a lot of time reading all the content word by word and needed to change some headlines. I don’t want you to make any amends. I will do it all myself. Considering all this, how much do you think I should pay you?
Me: I’m sorry you feel that way, but if you refer to the brief you’ll see that I completed ALL the work requested to your specifications. Also, I agreed to do the amends free of charge once you pay me the agreed cost, so there is no need to do it yourself. You’re just paying me for the work I’ve already done, not the changes you want going forward.
I am still waiting to hear back from him. Interestingly though, I did notice he uploaded all my content to his website without any changes. Evidently it is not good enough to pay for but it is good enough to use.
