I work for a t-shirt screen printing shop and we work with a lot of the area school districts. Unfortunately, the teachers and students like to use those online shirt generator sites, and then send us the design they want. For the sake of copyright laws and general good design, we take what they give us and improve upon it. For the most part, they are happy with our interpretation of what they sent us, but every now and then we get one of these:

Client: Here is the design they want.

He sends me a screen grab of the design they want. I re-create and improve the design, making it translatable to the garment.

Client: No, it needs to look more like what they sent over.

Again, I rework the design based on the image. The design is closer to what they sent, but still better than it was.

Client: No, we’ve already gotten this design approved. Just print the shirts.

Me: Is there any way that we can get our hands on the source files? I can’t use what they sent over.

I wait to hear back from my contact with the client. Not even two hours later I get an email from the rep.

Client: The lady that originally designed this loves your version. Get this ready to print.

I felt completely justified knowing my design skills were appreciated, but also irritated that I had to go through this process with someone who didn’t know what they were talking about as a go-between.
