I was working for a client redesigning the website, updating it from the hideous late 90s look to something more modern. Now, wasn’t updating or changing the text – just transferring it across to the new site.
After several rounds of revisions with my contact at the company, we sent it to the boss for final approval:
Client: This needs to be clearer.
Me: What do you mean, exactly?
Client: I mean, read these paragraphs. I don’t think they represent our company’s values.
Me: Well… I’m the designer of the new site, not a copywriter. That wasn’t part of my contract, and it’s not something I do professionally.
Client: If you don’t do this now, I’ll pull the contract and make sure you never work for our company again.
What else could I do? I rewrote the copy to the best of my ability for no extra pay.
It took nearly 3 months for them to pay me.
