I’m a musician who edits their own music and occasionally freelances for other clients. A client wanted two songs musicians at her Irish dance school had recorded on two different albums to be cut to certain times and to fade into each other on the same CD for a performance.

Me: So you want these cut at (times) and a faded transition?

Client: Yes.

I send the work.

Client: Sounds great! Just one thing. Can you make the keys the same?

One song is in C major, the other in F Major.

Me: Your musicians recorded them in two different keys.

Client: Can’t you just edit the key right in the file?

Me: ….

Client: ….

Me: …No.

Client: I thought you said you were an editor.

This was the last time we worked together.
