IGN: Batman '66 Meets Wonder Woman '77 #1 Review

DC is back with yet another "Batman '66 Meets..." crossover, but this one might just offer the most appealing crossover yet. Who among us hasn't dreamed of seeing Adam West's Batman and Burt Ward's Robin sharing the screen with Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman? Barring the announcement of a direct-to-DVD animated movie, this comic is probably the closest we'll get to that team-up becoming a reality. And like the various other Batman '66 crossovers, this series really scratches that itch.

It doesn't hurt that this series features the main writers from the core Batman '66 and Wonder Woman '77 comics, Jeff Parker and Marc Andreyko. Together, the duo are able to strike a nice balance between the two shows' respective tones, though this first issue leans more towards the Batman side of things in terms of cast. The writers actually take a surprisingly ambitious approach to merging the two properties. This isn't simply a garden variety crossover where Batman and Wonder Woman bump into each other while on the job. Instead, the bulk of this issue is spent in the past (during the 1940's setting of Wonder Woman's original season, to be more specific), as readers learn how a young Bruce Wayne first encountered Diana Prince. Further complicating matters is the presence of Ra's al Ghul and his daughter Talia.
